Temporary Workspace

So, I'm working from home because our newly-minted five-year-old has a stomach bug. Not fun. Luckily, I can telecommute. Our painters are here today working on our bedroom (so long Santa Fe-inspired wallpaper!). Our contractor should be here soon to work on the framing in the kitchen and then the flooring folks are set to arrive tomorrow. (We had to postpone the flooring for a few days due to a pipe leak. Don't ask.)

In the meantime, I'm working at our dining room table, which is stacked high with kids' artwork, cookbooks, and my paperwork/electronics, in addition to my centerpieces. I like to think of it as a controlled chaos, if you will, which describes my workspace in general. I know where everything is and how to get to it. It may not be pretty, but I make it work. But, yes, it could use some organizing every now and then.

The mess around the house is getting to me a bit. I don't normally like to clean, but right now I would love to start dusting and picking up the clutter strewn about. I know dust comes with the territory when doing a renovation and our contractor warned us of this. Although, living in the midst of it quickly gets old. I'll stop complaining, though, because progress is being made and you know how much I love progress!

So, I'll look on the bright side. The lighting is good in our dining room, so it's a pleasant place to work. The sun is out today and the temperature is rising. Spring appears to be making an appearance and I welcome its arrival. And, I'm spending time with my little girl, who will hopefully feel better soon.

Have a great weekend everyone! My Kentucky Wildcats play Florida this weekend - last game of the regular season before the SEC tournament and March Madness. Go Cats!

Kitchen Blues

We’re having our dark cabinets painted white in the coming weeks and I’m really looking forward to it. I think it will do a lot to brighten up the space. While I tend to be pretty traditional when it comes to décor, such as a white kitchen, I just loved the Charleston kitchen that My Notting Hill featured on her blog. (Hope it's okay that I borrowed this pic - couldn't resist!)Gorgeous! If I were just a little more daring – and had an historic home that could pull off this shade of blue – I would do it.

I'm dreaming of a white kitchen - part two

Isn’t this oak cabinet fabulous? It’s an antique that was originally made for a retail shop in France. Another entry for my kitchen wish list!

I'm dreaming of a white kitchen...

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not crazy (to put it lightly) about my kitchen. We moved into our current house five years ago and while it's a great house, the kitchen is outdated and lacking in space. We did take down the sad, old wallpaper a few years ago and painted the walls apple green with bright white trim, giving it a much happier look. And, we relocated a chandelier over the kitchen table to spruce it up a bit. We have some original artwork on the walls too, in an effort to modernize. But, until we come up with the funds to take a sledge hammer to it, it will continue to annoy me. So, I continue to add images to my kitchen binder in hopes that some day we can renovate.

The first two photos above I spotted on Camilla at Home, a great blog for home design ideas. The third one is a divine kitchen I found on Marley & Lockyer's blog - another fabulous blog for home design inspiration. If anyone has seen the film, "Something's Gotta Give," with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, that's the kitchen I want. I've read that that movie inspired many-a-kitchen, and it's easy to see why.
