The Circus is Coming to Town

It's not everyday that you see an elephant walking down the street, much less several elephants and a number of show ponies. So, I couldn't resist taking photos of the animal parade that marched by my office today. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has come to town and some of the larger animals paraded through downtown from the train station to the arena where they'll perform.

Sometimes it saddens me to see such big, beautiful animals relegated to life in a circus or the zoo, instead of roaming free in the savannah. I do struggle with this, especially when my kids want to go see them. But, I was in awe of the sight today. They are amazing creatures to behold.

One day closer to the weekend, folks. Hang in there.

very cool! It seems crazy they would parade them through downtown but I guess it makes sense.

So fun - and I do understand all your reservations. Have you read Water for Elephants? Easy read, fun, quirky, and about elephants and circuses:).

Truly beautiful animals .. I had the privilege of being up close to them on my trip to Thialand a few years ago... what a sight it must have been to see, looking out your office window...xo HHL

Amazing, what a sight and what a beautiful animal! Did you ever think you would see that out of your office window?

What timing...just today, I was offered tickets to the circus for tonight's show and I declined. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of these animals being treated poorly for our entertainment...if that is indeed what happens. I also didn't tell my husband b/c I'm sure he would have been like, "get over it! i want to take stella." ha. what a neat sight, though, for you.

I like the photo of the elephants from above. If they are treated well I think the elephants can be as happy as dogs and horses that grew up and are trained for dressage.

Amazing photos, this would def be a sight to see outside your window. I do agree with you though and I feel the same way of people who like to have pet birds. Hello...birds can fly, why would you keep them caged? Just found your lovely blog :) Have a great day.
