For several days in a row, the city has declared a “heat advisory,” warning folks about dangerous ozone levels, extremely high heat indexes, etc. My daughter’s trip to the pool with her day-camp was cancelled today because it’s too hot to even just sit in water. Yeah, that’s pretty darn hot. And, around here, it’s not a dry heat. No, it’s a sopping-wet, humid, muggy, sweat-through-your-shirt-before-you-even-leave-the-house, heat.
So, for my friends who are enjoying some late summer fun in the north on cool lakes and other welcoming bodies of water, I envy you. Wish I could enjoy a breezy sunny day in a linen shirt and capris at the beach, à la Jackie and Caroline...
No, this is more of my reality...
So, dear friends who are in a cooler climate, dip your toes in the water for me. I’ll be here, sweatin’ it out, thinking of you, longing for the crisp, cool days of fall. Heck, I’d be happy with low 80s at this point.
By the way, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis would have turned 82 today. David Patrick Columbia remembers Jackie in his New York Social Diary column.

I don't *do* humidity well either :) You know it's bad when they call off a day at the pool! Hope there is some relief soon.

PS No humidity in CA ~ let's jump on a plane and I'll share my favorite vineyards with you.
That shot of Jackie makes me want a pair of those capris trousers. You look very chic too and very tanned. Its been chilly here and foggy arrggh, envy your brown legs
Oh, that's not me in the last photo - I wish I had long legs like that! No, the idea of a lawn chair and water bottle at my feet while working on the laptop is more in line with my life, than that of Jackie O. :)
We hit !03 last week! Now it is in the high 90's. Really looking forward to the fall.
Try and stay cool.
Susan
We'd be tickled with high 80's in Mayberry. At least the grass isn't being cut.
Oh, I just can't stand this heat one more second. Today marked our 27th day of 100 or more degrees and no end in sight. Next week it's predicted to hit 107.
Oh, happy birthday, Jackie! Can't believe she would have been 82.
I don't envy you! I feel sorry for you! I think we have a perfect summer weather right now with about 73 degrees (Maby you would find that to cool...)
If only I looked as chic as Jackie in the summer heat! ;)
I soooo enjoyed catching up on your blog tonight (rockin Sat. night here) we just got back for Michigan and it was down right chilly a few days and we had to eat soup for lunch just to warm up. but i'm back to the sweltering cincinnati heat now. off to check out your book recommendations...I feel like I read the secret history years ago, but can't remember for sure - how horrible is that?! xo, Tessa
