Last Friday, it was reported in the news that Linda Christian, actress and one-time wife of film legend Tyrone Power, had died at the age of 87.
I knew nothing about her, but came across this photo of Ms. Christian being fitted for her wedding gown in Rome in 1949. The house of Fontana designed the dress. It is such a thing of beauty, a work of art, that I just had to include it here.

What a beautiful picture! How have we never heard of her before?
I recognize this photo: from Jean Howard's amazing book of photos from Old Hollywood ("Jean Howard's Hollywood: A Photo Memoir"), first published in 1989. I had seen an old copy of it in my local library years ago, and when I spotted it at a second-hand bookstore, I made sure to purchase it. Even though I was traveling and it meant I had to transport the fairly weighty tome back with me! It really is quite fabulous.
