Notes from the Weekend

It was a whirlwind weekend, and morning, literally, with at least two tornadoes touching down just a few miles north of here. Schools were on a delayed schedule because of the severe weather. Miss E. was supposed to have a field trip today, so doesn't look like that's going to happen now. How crazy has this winter been??

The Girl Scouts' Father/Daughter Dance was Friday night. Everyone had a ball. Miss E. was beside herself with excitement, seeing all her friends and their daddies dressed up. Apparently a lot of Justin Bieber was requested at the dance and now Miss E. says she loves "Justin Beaver." Uh, that's gotta stop. Hubby said, "In that one song, all he says is 'Ooo, baby! Oooo, baby!' I could do that!" I'd prefer that you not - the less Bieber in my house, the better.

The rest of the weekend was full of birthday parties and mattress shopping. Yep, we took the plunge and purchased a new mattress. My back and neck are looking forward to its arrival. We shopped while Miss E. was at a birthday party. Little Guy did very well until the end, when he was jumping from one mattress to the other. At least he had taken his shoes off. (A few days ago, I blogged about wanting a TempurPedic, but after trying many brands, we settled on the Simmons ComforPedic - same memory-foam concept, but much more affordable. I'm VERY happy with our choice.)

In other news, congrats to all of the wonderful Oscar winners and nominees. Although,  I have to say I was more than underwhelmed with the hosting abilities of Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Some of the opening scenes spoofing the nominated films were funny, but then it went downhill from there. It was borning and I couldn't stay awake for the major awards. We were cheering on Louisville native, Jennifer Lawrence, on her nomination for "Winter's Bone." She rocked that red dress! Big hopes for the hometown girl, but no surprise that Natalie Portman won - she was amazing in that role. And, dear Colin Firth, you are so very deserving of the Oscar. Cheers to you!

What did you think of the Oscars this year?

Have never seen so many UGLY dresses! Loved the dresses Gweneth Paltrow and jennifer Lawrence were wearing. I thought Anne Hataway looked gorgeous in her many dresses as usual. I am going to agree that she didn't have the right partner to host the Oscar's.
There were many beautiful gowns, but some really ugly ones that are being reported as gorgeous. It's jus ta matter of taste.
Your daughter looks adorable. She is your twin! Glad that she is in Girl Scouts. I went through Cadets.
Have a great week, Jen.

SO CUTE! Love the Father Daughter Dance photo!!!! And recap! :) Justin Beaver....hahahahaha. Pat always says he has "beaver feaver." Yeah, so inappropriate! I know.
I was disappointed in James Franco. What was his problem? Loved the winners though for Actor/Actress. Both so deserving!

Sounds like you had a fun weekend! The father/daughter dance sounds precious! I regret not ordering any Girl Scout cookies this year. And I'm not much of a Bieber fan myself.

What a sweet idea with Father/Daughter Dance ( and your couple were very good looking). Have never heard of it before, is it something new or is it an old tradition?

I think your little girl looks so much like you! She is so cute:) Sounds like the dance was a blast, this is such a lovely memory.

Please stay safe in the dangerous weather. I have a feeling we are going to have lots of stormy weather as the temp rises.

Oh no, Bieber fever! I am sympathetic. At Little's first Father Daughter dance, my husband was bewildered that whenever the DJ played Hannah Montanna, the girls ran around the floor shrieking. Thank heavens, it passed, as will Bieber fever.

I was not impressed with the awards. I think they need a more seasoned host that knows how to adlib when something funny happens.
Your daughter and husband looked adorable together!

Now I have Ooooooh Baby in my head on repeat. I've already been so thankful we're going to miss the Miley Cyrus (ugh!) phase in my house that I don't think I'd mind Beiber fever, although, we're still too young for that one as well. Anything but Miley! That father/daughter pic is precious and so is the idea of a dance. So heart warming!

The Oscars were a total drip. But I really have to give it to Anne, who was obviously overcompensating for the dead weight that was her co-host. She looked great, too. I do hope for a return to a more traditional approach...this seemed too Golden Globes/SAG to me. Nobody blew me away in terms of dress. Everybody played it pretty safe. My fav dress, albiet safe, was probably Halle Berry's, though I'm not a fan of her and she looked the same as she always does. Head-to-toe, my favorite might have been Reese.
