If you’ve read my blog long enough, you know that I’m a big fan of Garden & Gun Magazine, and of their associate editor, Haskell Harris. One of her recent online features is about “Charleston Green,” a paint color that is said to have originated in the Holy City during or directly after the Civil War. Many-a-historic home in Charleston features this paint color, either on the shutters and/or front door. Read more on the origin of Charleston Green.
While our home features very traditional black shutters and front door (with a Louisville Stoneware name plaque – a must-have in these parts), I really like this color green. I bet it’s gorgeous on a white house (check out Haskell’s house on her blog). Anyone use this color on your own home?

Well all the way over here in Australia one of my childhood homes (Victorian) was that exact shade of blacky green. People used to knock on the door and ask us where the colour came from (we mixed it specially). It looks divine and that is a beautiful little house. xoxo
Our front door and shutters are Charleston green. We love it. My mother's home (the home I grew up in) also has them. What's nice is that she has a painted brick home and ours is not painted and they both look stunning.
Do it! You will not regret it. It's a step away from the ordinary of black, but just a small one at that!
