More Swimming and Odd Hair Fashion

Well, I may have spoken too soon the other day. We received word that both of our kids qualified for the city meet. How that happened, not sure. I'm proud, yet a bit baffled. And, yeah, a little annoyed that I have to be at the pool with the masses at 7 a.m. Saturday. But, most of all, I'm proud of how much my kids have accomplished this swim season.

The swim team kids getting psyched for the city meet at the annual Pasta and PJs event last night.

So, the blue swim suits won't be retired quite yet. Will keep you posted on the results.

In other news, just had to throw out a random question about headbands. What's the main reason to wear a headband when playing sports? That's right, to keep the hair out of your face. For instance, one of my favorite bloggers, Preppy Player, recently featured some fabulous Lulumon headbands that are big among female lacrosse players.

Very cute.

So, I'm a little confused with soccer player Abby Wambach's look of late, as well as some other female athletes who sport headbands in this manner. Another local blog, Style Blueprint Louisville, posted about this odd fashion statement as well, so I had to share this with my peeps and get your thoughts.

Why put a headband OVER your bangs? What does this accomplish?

I don't want sweaty hair in my eyes, and I would think most people share that sentiment. Am I missing something? I know, I know. I shouldn't pick on the appearance of female athletes. Ms. Wambach is an amazing soccer player and an inspiration to soccer kids everywhere. But, if you have insight into this hair trend, please share. Just curious.

Happy Thursday, friends!

Maybe to keep the sweat from rolling down? Good question! Congrats on the qualifying in the city meet, that's great!

All the players was wear always different types of accessories and different types of bands on head and hands. They use it very often times.

Headbands look so cute - especially the ballerina look but don't they hurt your head?

First, congrats to the kiddos! Second, leave it to Lulu. Third, it is my pet peeve when people work out with their hair down simply because I can't stand to have anything in my face so I can't understand this trend...

Love the first headband - but what I am always wondering is how they stay on top of your head? Mine tend to slip down and do nothing, apart from massively annoying me.

I wear a sweat band like that when I run. It is specifically designed to be worn low to channel the sweat (and sunscreen) away from your eyes. Looks a little goofy but it works.

Congratulations on your children's qualifications! My daughter plays lacrosse and always has a headband of some sort. They've tried the kind of headbands that Abby Wambach wears, and they do nothing to hold the hair back. They roll off. I guess that they are designed purely to keep the sweat from running into the eyes. The lacrosse and field hockey girls both have goggles to help. Just my opinion...

I stumbled upon your post while looking for a solution for my short hair while I work out. I think the answer to your question about why Abby Wambach wears he headband pressing against her forehead is the length of her hair. My hair is about 2 inches long and I am struggling with what to do with it while I work out. I quickly found that I cannot wear a headband the "cute way." If I do this all of my hair gets pushed back and then sticks straight up from the headband. Some of the hairs in the front are not long enough so they hang out front. Not a good look at all. Abby probably sweats a lot being that she plays 90 minutes of soccer a game. I cannot slick my hair back with product because it will run down into my eyes when I sweat. The only thing that I can find to function to holding my hair in place and not sting my eyes is a headband over the bangs.
