The Next Home Project?

Saturday evening I attended a “Margartia Mom” benefit for my daughter’s school and PTO. It was such fun and gave me a chance to meet several of the moms, some who have kids in kindergarten as well as those with kids in other grades.

A couple we know from preschool, church and now grade school, were gracious enough to host the event at their beautiful home, which sits in the middle of town, yet is tucked back on a quiet road with a few acres to spare. The party featured a Mexican theme, and a few of the PTO moms served as hosts while their hubbies helped park cars, tended bar and cleaned up behind us.

While touring the house, I loved that in the kitchen, a giant bulletin board covered an entire wall, featuring photos, calendars, cards, etc. of the family. It wasn’t a fancy Pottery Barn board with special framing; no, it likely came from Home Depot, Staples or the Parent/Teacher Store. It fit perfectly with the down-to-earth lifestyle this couple leads; they may be doctors living in a large home, but they have four kids, they live busy lives and clearly their home reflects who they are, not what a hired decorator thinks they should be. It's their touchstone. It reminds them to "keep it real."

Currently, our fridge, like in many homes, serves as art gallery, scrap book, date planner, you name it. But, now I’m inspired to have a separate space for all of those items that, while it may look messy at times, somewhat contains the chaos. Dear readers, do you have bulletin boards, memory boards, etc. in your kitchen or office? If so, did you make it? Buy it a crafts store? What do you display on it?

Ever feel that there's not enough coffee in the world to make you come to life? Shew, I'm having one of those days. Hopefully, the fog will lift soon. At least there's a three-weekend waiting for me on the horizon! :)

I'm currently working on a vision board - (I purchased an art canvas at a local craft store - for less than a cork bulletin board) and am adding images that reflect the -re-invented me ~ to inspire me not to give up ... I'll be posting about it in the next week or so.

A family board - would be amazing to display all the wonderful items that make the family!!! can't wait to see what you create! hugs..HHL

Well I 've already had enough coffee to launch me from here, but I keep on sipping. This is such a nice post.
I bought semi-heavy plywood and made a blackboard and added cork strips to the side. It is large enough to hold many notes and the blackboard is spacious enough. Nothing fancy, but it is clean and organized.
Have a good day and hope that the fog lifts!

Yes, sometimes I wish I could have my coffee via IV drip. I love it so!

I love that you wrote about this because I've been coveting the giant bulletin board (with fancy gold frame)from Ballard Designs for a few years now. I'd also like to put it in the kitchen and cover it w/ everything from artwork to invites to pictures...imagine the cuteness at holiday time! I have an image torn from a magazine that I've always loved...the decor of the house leans towards elegant and then they have this wonderfully messy bulletin board in the middle of it all.

p.s. Wish I wrote as beautifully as you do and I love the idea of a Margarita Mom party! xo

p.s.s. I will soon post about the wall I covered entirely of cork board in the office of my old home. It was amazing! When it came time to sell the house, it was so sad to take everything down.

Tiffany, you are a doll! Thanks for the kind comments.

Love to hear what everyone is doing with their bulletin boards. And, so glad to hear that I'm in good company as far as the caffeine addiction goes. ;)

It's a great idea. My house has children's art walls all over the place but I'd like them to be a bit more contained. Please show yours when you've organised it!

I have a few of those tucked next to each other in my study: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10159443
Unfortunately, they do not brew coffee...

Sounds like a fun party for all the parents! Yes, as we call it--"command central" is essential to family life. You've inspired me to post about how we try to stay organized with a family calendar and a message board.

Our stainless fridge doesn't allow magnets so it is pretty are. However, it fits in a built-in where I have hung a large magnetic bulletin board. It is covered with everything! What I especially like about it is that it is hidden from the rest of the kitchen... You have to look around the fridge for it!

Rebecca has a lilly-inspired memory board that I made her. I will take a picture of it tomorrow and send it to you. I do not have one but really want to create one for myself.

While we don't "need" one yet, I know we will someday when SYT is bigger and other little ones bless our life. I've always loved the idea of a great big ornate frame spray painted black and divided out by family member with a cool graphich black and white fabric. I'm not really sure where we would hang it, as the spots in our house we use the most don't really have a space for something like what I'm envisioning.

Boy oh boy, we have a LOT of work to do on our house over the next few years!! We aren't organized at all and once kids are out and about, we will really need to be!

One of my favorites. We have one, but not near as cute.

You have read my mind in so many ways with this post! I just left a comment on another blog about my need to get a memo board for my office area-a real inspiration board! I love your ideas so thanks for some more great inspiration.

Hope your week has been stress free and that the coffee is flowing!

Best wishes,
Natasha.
