Saying 'So Long' to Summer

Labor Day is approaching, which means pools will close, white shoes will go back in the closet and tans will fade. It’s been an odd summer for me, full of life-altering events, both good and bad. My mom’s illness was certainly the lowest of low points and because of that, I’m more than ready to send the summer of 2010 packing. Yet, summer also brought us a new home and the beginning of a new era for our daughter as she began kindergarten. So, with the bad, summer also gave us a bounty of good. It clearly illustrated the roller coaster that is life and all I can do is sit back, reflect, thank God for the results and move forward.

We now head into my favorite time of year: fall. I love the colors, the weather, the feeling of a new beginning. Football games, harvest homecomings, Keeneland, pumpkins, cider, our wedding anniversary, Halloween, sweaters and jeans. Ah, bring on the orange, gold and brown!

I hope all you have a safe, relaxing and happy Labor Day weekend full of good memories and great anticipation of what fall is to bring. Enjoy your backyard barbecues, splashing in the pool and time with family and friends. Would love to hear what you and yours are planning for this special holiday.

It's Thursday, friends. Slowly, but surely, we're going to make it!

Good morning darling! I'm so ready for Fall too. The temps have been horrid this year and I was ready to say goodbye to Summer two months ago.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Tis my favorite season too. Still feels pretty toasty here, but this weekend it's going to cool down (and hopefully stay that way). The hubs and I are coming to Keeneland this fall (our favorite track) and we'll spend a night sans kiddos, can't wait. We love it there! Happy Labor Day!

Sorry about your mum, hope she is doing well. My daughter too starts kindergarten and is sooo excited. I know I will cry next week when I drop her off. Just added you to my blog roll!

While I am excited about fall, I am dreading winter. So I am going kicking and screaming into fall...or as I think of it....the end of summer and all things happy. The loooog dark winter is just exhausting. But it sounds like you really deserve a change in seasons. So cheers to a wonderful fall! (and God willing a mild winter too)

Such a great post and toast to fall. I'm sad to say goodbye to summer - my favorite season - but I do enjoy the events of fall weekends.

I hope your mother has continued to progress and you are getting settled in your new home. Decorating a new home for the seasons for the first time is always so fun. I'm sure you'll have it all decked out for the fall and Christmas holidays.

Thanks for the note you left on my 'September' post. It was wonderful to hear from you. It's been too long since I've made the rounds to my favorite blogs, but fall is getting me back into my normal routine. Rita

I'm dragging my feet a bit about leaving summer, but fall is my favorite time of year, and your post reminded me of that!

It's been one of the best summers and I've enjoyed every minute. I'm looking forward to the coziness of fall that is peeking right around the corner.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend ~

Doing mental cartwheels in the orange Fall leaves as we speak!

Sweet William...love the name of this flower so much that I used to have a seed packet pinned to my bulletin board.

Happy Labor Day! xoxo
