A Screened Porch

I love my house. We’ve been there for close to 15 months and while there is still plenty to do with decorating, new roof, etc., we’re very happy there. But, the one thing I really miss about our old house (besides our fantastic neighbors) is our screened porch.

We spent about three of the four seasons on that porch. It was wonderful to open the French doors off the kitchen and let gatherings flow into the porch area. Maybe, someday, we’ll build a similar porch onto our current home. Hey, the Power Ball Lottery is up to $245 million (I haven't checked yet if we won - I'll keep you posted). That could certainly build a kick-ass porch.
Anyhoo, what got me thinking about our old porch was the November issue of Southern Living, which featured a wonderful porch addition to a historic Mississippi home. It’s not only a screened porch, but it’s an extended living space of the house, complete with outdoor kitchen, fireplaces and other amenities.

The owners host their Thanksgiving dinners there  each year. What a great place to gather with family and friends.

What’s your favorite room in your house?

I was drooling over that room as well!(or rooms!) We have a covered porch... tin roof, sounds nice as the rain falls this morning! We sit out there and have coffee, have dinners and other meals out there and even use it as a football watching room on weekends! The kids like it b/c we do not do TV during week, but can on patio!

We have been in our house five years, and I still miss our old porch. I would happily give up my formal living room for a big old screened porch. With a fireplace.

We've been in our house for over four years and I'm ready to add on. I'm thinking a sunroom for myself, but I love the look of this porch. I could just glass it all in!

Dearest JMW,

Our favorite room is our Veranda but it has double glass. In our previous home we had a screened in porch but we replaced the screens in a hurry with double glass windows and enjoyed it since than. The rain, moisture (in the fabrics and rugs...) and dust can no longer come in. Love the light in our veranda for reading, needle work or just for a tea or coffee together or with friends. Looking out on the garden, the pond and the gazebo is a bliss.
Love to you,

Mariette

I just love a porch and there is no better sleep than an afternoon nap when the breeze is blowing and the bees buzzing. I'm making myself sleepy

OMYGOSH!!! How gorgeous is that!! My go to space for quiet time is actually in the kitchen in a sitting area that has chairs facing out the french doors to our gardens. This would be great off those french doors. XO HHL

I have this issue and I am keeping it just because of the porch. I would like to have something like this off the basement. It would be awesome! Happy weekend!

Ahh, my hubs and I long for a screened in porch! We've contemplated building on in our current house, but it's not our forever house so it might be best to wait! But how much longer can one hold out!? :) These images are GORGEOUS!!

I think I have a new standard to hold porches to now! I would love to have a porch like that one ... a true southern touch.

I would LOVE to have a screened-in porch. I need to get the magazine so I can save this. ONE DAY! Clearly you nor I won the lottery as we don't live in CT. Bummer!

Now on the subject of Christmas before Thanksgiving...I was shocked to see yesterday a house in our neighborhood already has their tree up in their window! My gosh, did they erect it on Nov 1?! And a really big house on a fancy pants street has their decoartions already hung up. And they would have had to have had a company come install it. I actually do appreciate Christmas being out in the store early b/c it gives us more time to shop and spread out our spending dollars. However, decoarting before Thanksgiving - no way! I LOVE Thanksgiving (and the day after when you eat leftovers in your PJs).

If our porch would have a superb view like this then I would pick it as my favorite spot in our house instead of my own bedroom! I’d surely love to stay here all day long and just stare at the beauty of nature!

I love screened porches! It is a given that it allows a good view of your surroundings and a fresh atmosphere. The other thing I like about it is that it’s much easier to maintain. Yeah, there may be dust, but no leaves or any other falling objects. :D If you miss it that much, you can add a porch to your house. -->William
