Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

So, plans to start the kitchen renovation are in place (One of my inspiration kitchens from Southern Living is featured above). It very well could get underway in a week or two. Our contractor was over Thursday night, we settled on a more-budget friendly design and we were getting excited. Then he had to check in the basement one more time to make sure that we can knock through one of the walls. Wait...there's plumbing in the wall. So, now we have to see what the plumbing/HVAC folks say. Is it something that can be easily reworked or would it be too much trouble? We'll have to wait and see.

Then, we take Hubby's SUV to the mechanic yesterday because something is wrong. Something is right. The damn thing needs a new transmission and fuel pump. This on the heels of finally committing to a kitchen renovation that we've been wanting for more than six years.

Sigh. I just need to put this in perspective. I have a roof over my head and another vehicle to drive. People in Haiti have lost everything. I know, I am blessed.

I'm still a bit peeved, though. ;)

It will be worth it.
I just spent the past year building a second home, 90 miles away from home, and I lost a lot of sleep but now that its finished I'm so happy that I went through it, and you will be too.

Hang in there. Disappointment, no matter what kind, is always tough. What happened in Haiti is terrible, horrific, but your life must go on and you mustn't stop your life/hopes/dreams... it will all work out for you. Always does. Hang in there my friend! Sorry about the car. Timing is terrible. The kitchen is splendid though!

We painted our kitchen this year. Would have loved to have been able to rip out floor and counter tops, but that can wait.

As my mother always tells me -- good things do come to those who wait!

You know what they say..."when it rains it pours."

At least you know about these issues before the demolition started or your husband was just driving along.

I adore that kitchen and am so excited for you. I can't wait to see the process unfold and your final product! We're thinking of you!

PS-it's only natural to be a bit peeved! :)

yes, so much better to know about the plumbing in the walls now versus later! So sorry to hear about the transmission. :( Bummer. I'm sure your kitchen will come to fruition soon, and kudos to you for saving for 6 years to make it happen!

There is always something that pops up. Take a deep breath, it always works out in the end. When it's all finished you'll appreciate that much more.

Love your kitchen inspiration! Reminds me that we all need fresh flowers to perk up a room.

You totally have your priorities in order and realize how lucky - no, blessed you are. We all are so blessed. Every woman I have met in this wonderful world of blogland. However, I have not met one yet who doesn't think of others - just as you do!

It will get better... :)

I'm so sorry. That is so frustrating!! We had some plans with our budget & then I needed very expensive dental work... and I wasn't in a bit of pain. I just went in for a cleaning and came out paying for private school for the dentist's children! Hang in there:). YOu're smart to try to put it in perspective, but it doesn't mean you can't be disappointed.

Oh that IS frustrating. Perspective is good, but regular old life can still be very trying. You'll get there!! Can't wait to see all about it. :-)

Great inspiration. Getting a project 'started' is always the hardest part, but worth the frustration once it's all over. Can't wait to see the big reveal.

I've just started reaing your blog and it's one of my favorites. I just redid my bathroom and faced some of the same problems. Just keep going. Commit and make it work. It's so worth it in the end. P.S. It did cost more than I planned but I'm very happy I spent the extra money.

Your inspiration kitchen is lovely - I like that it's so fresh and white but with a playful use of touches of colour. The blinds are fabulous. Good luck with your project!
