Black Swan

So, is anyone going to see the new film “Black Swan?” Doubt I’ll go, since it’s a rare evening that Hubby and I make it to a movie theatre. Although, we do love thrillers, and “Black Swan” apparently is all that and more. Perhaps a bit too dark, mind-game movie, for me. Not sure if I’m up for something that intense right now. My mindset is more lighthearted heading into the holidays; more “Elf” than “Black Swan.”

Natalie Portman at the premiere of "Black Swan"

At the recent premiere, Natalie Portman, who stars in the film, looked amazing. I had to include photos of the dress she wore, as well as that of Rachel Weisz, who is/was (Huffington Post says they’re breaking up) married to “Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky. Beautiful frocks.

A scene from the film featuringWinona Ryder's character, a one-time ballerina star who has great disdain for the new star, played by Natalie Portman.

I understand that Winona Ryder has a bit role as well, albeit quite juicy, playing a one-time prima ballerina who was cast aside for a younger version. I think it would be great to see Winona alongside Natalie, since Winona was once the “it” girl of cinema, not so long ago. Sounds like a good role for her.

Mila Kunas plays Natalie's understudy in the film. I read an interview with her in which she noted that she lost 20 pounds for the role, weighing in at only 95 pounds; very much like what goes on in the world of ballet. I've had friends who danced and I've always been amazed, and perhaps horrified at times, at the grueling regimen of ballet, both what dancers do physically and psychologically to themselves. Yet, when you attend a performance and see it in person, it's one of the most beautiful art forms in existence. Hard to reconcile the world of the dancers and the art itself, isn't it?

So, dear friends, what films are you hoping to see during the holiday season? Or what recent films have you seen that you would highly recommend? Or, perhaps tell us not to waste our time on?

TGIF, kids. We finally made it.

I thought I want to see this, but--like you--I'm thinking it's kind of dark, and, doubtful the Mister would want to see this. Also, thinking of seeing Morning Glory; have you seen it?

Ditto. I like NP & I am thinking that the film is probably worth the price of admission, but after Harry Potter (who I love) I want some laughs. Hope you have a great weekend.
Best,
Colleen

T&C, have not seen "Morning Glory," although I heard it was cute. While on a playdate with a friend, my daugher saw "Tangled," which she loved. So, if you have any little kids in your life, you may want to consider that. Of course, the one good thing I have to recommend is a kids' movie. Tells you where I am in life, huh? :)

I hope to see it...I heard great things and I love Natalie Portman

As for other movies....I am taking the kids to see "It's A Wonderful Life" on the big screen. I also will likely see "Little Fockkers"

I afraid the grumpy old man in me can't take theater crowds anymore. I want to see Secretariat and the new True Grit, but will be waiting for dvd release.

I do want to see Black Swan because I like Natalie, but I think it will be a rental. The last movie I saw was Morning Glory. I liked it, but it is not something I want to watch again. I really want to see a movie (cannot think of the name) with Reece Witherspoon coming out soon. Happy weekend dear!!

My daughter danced. I wish I could see it with her but she is not coming home for Christmas this year.

For me, there is nothing better than seeing a movie on the big screen, but I've just become too intolerant of poor manners - especially cellphone use. Like others, I'll wait on the DVDs. Blue Valentine and How Do You Know are two on my list. However, we will most likely do the family thing over the holidays to see Yogi Bear.

I'm with you. Give me Elf & A Charlie Brown Christmas!
Do you have as many snowmen in your neighborhood as I do mine?
Perfect snow for it! I'm so sore though I can barely move....
Have a great rest of the weekend.

I think Morning Glory will be a film for me. I will recommend a French film, My Father's Glory and My Mothers's glory if you haven't seen them. I saw them together on the Cinema and loved them so much that I now got them on DVD. Our family tradition for Christmas is to see The Polar Express

Sorry, the name of the second film is My Mother's Castle. In the Swedish translation they call the both films The Key To Provence.
