Never Thought I'd See the Day...

Did I mention that Hubby gave me a Kindle for Christmas? Yeah, me the hardcover-book-loving-purist got a Kindle. Did I ask for one? No. Do I now love it? YES!!

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would join Team Kindle, but it's pretty darn cool. I can download just about any book at the touch of a few buttons. This can also be dangerous,  because you can quickly rack up the charges with Amazon.

I was worried that I wouldn't like reading from a screen, especially since I spend a great portion of my day in front of a computer. But, there is no glare. It's very viewer-friendly and light. I also feel like I read faster with a Kindle, but maybe that's just me. I did whip through my first e -book pretty quickly. Perhaps I should actually give credit to the author who wrote a very engrossing story, though, rather than the instrument on which I read it. :)

Don't worry, I haven't totally gone electronic with my reading. I also received the final installment of the "Girl" trilogy for Christmas, "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest," which I'm currently reading in hardcopy form. Yes, I'm bopping back and forth between two different stories, one in hardcopy and one on an e-book. I'm weird like that.

Anyone else go to the e-side/dark side recently? If so, what do you think?

I just got a kindle as well for Christmas and I am really looking forward to using it for traveling, but I am finishing a few paperbacks now first. ;)

I got a Kindle at Christmas too and have been surprised at how much I enjoy it. It's so convenient. I worry though about my credit card bill since it's so easy to download books... :)

My husband gave me an iPad for this and other possibilities but I've resisted. I love holding a book and turning the pages.

After reading your last posts, I've been looking for Pure Barre in my area ~ nope, it's not offered!

Same thing happened to me! I didn't ask for a kindle but was gifted one last spring for my birthday...I was hesitant at first but once I set it all up it was like love at first read! I've found a I read a lot more now than I did pre-kindle because it's so light and easy to carry. I keep it in my purse and any time I find a few extra minutes I whip it out and start reading. Love my kindle!!!!!

We received a Kindle last year from my in-laws. I was originally a naysayer, but I now hog the darn thing!
It's been a lifesaver for me when it comes to the books I need to read for my book club, because I never think to order the hardcopy with enough lead time.
I say, GO E-readers!!

I love mine. Hubby bought me one for my birthday last year. I did ask for one, but liek you, a hard/paper book girl, I did wonder if I'd made the right decision - no doubt! Like you though, i still go between the two, but love that I can do that. I'm not a gadget kinda girl, but this has my name all over it! Glad you love yours, here's going to the dark side! xx

i ALMOST got the barnes & noble ereader for Chirstmas, but when hubs gave me a hint of "it plugs in" i put the kabash on it and said, "something sparklie please and thank you" -- so i got jewelry, but I'm REALLLLLY wanting an ereader.....

That's interesting, as it's a potential purchase on my Potential Purchase List, something I could whip out in the rare five minute interlude of peace and zip through a chapter. I thought I'd miss the tactile element of paper, but now you, like others, have said it's better than you expected, I'm very nearly persuaded.

I don't have a Kindle, but everyone that I know that does says exactly what you report. Some of the features are kind of neat, like keeping your place, looking up words, etc. Maybe we can have it all ;)
Best,
Colleen

Hmm... I have not moved from the love of reading from actual printed words on paper. For me I like the feel of holding an actual book and turning pages... but who knows what the future holds.. after all I know many people who have them and they just rave about them!!! xo HHL

My husband got me an Sony e-reader last year for my birthday and I must admit that I have fallen in love with it! Don't get me wrong, I am like you in that nothing can replace 'the book' but I found that I was always so cautious about travelling with books in my bag. I hate it when something I hold so dear, like most of my books, gets smudged or crinkled (pratically inevitable without some kind of protective cover) so there were very few books that I would take with me outside of my home. Plus there is always the 'guilty pleasure' book that I would love to read but would always think about what I would do with it later. This little gadget solves these problems!!

I'm seriously OBSESSED with my Kindle! I seriously read so many more books on there, than when I ever read regular books. Glad you love yours!

P.S. I gave you an award on my blog today! :)

I received a Kindle for Christmas and I am in love with it. I also feel like I read faster using this instead of a book. Also, so wonderful to have any book that I can dream up at my fingertips.

I have the Kindle App on my iPad AND I LOVE IT! I will never go back. I also bought my husband a Kindle for Chriatmas and he loves it too!

Oh, I have the app on my Droid too and it syncs back and forth between my two devices. So cool.

I'm so glad to hear you like it! I am afraid I wouldn't, but I know hubby has been looking at them for me. I've heard you can get library books too!

My mom got one and she loves it. I will get one when it is easy to check books out of the library with one. She also reads Kindle books faster and even checked to see if they were abridged. Nope.

I have been wondering aobut getting one myself but I thought about the mechanics of it the same way.

You have convinced me! I am ordering one right now.

I hope I love it as much as you do.

Thanks for the input.
