Caffeine: My Drug of Choice

So, I've been crafting a wellness-related article, warning folks about the risks of energy drinks, which have high contents of sugar and caffeine. There's been a surge in their consumption and medical specialists are warning against over-use of these drinks and the health implications.

Anyhoo, I was feeling good about myself reading these stats because I don't drink Red Bull, Monster or any of these energy drinks. Never have. Yes, I look down upon you energy-guzzling poor souls who require your jolt of energy from a multi-colored can!

But, oh yeah, I consume coffee on a daily basis. So, I must dismount from my high horse, because I do require several butt loads doses of caffiene each day.

According to the publication "American Nurse Today":

Caffeine is the most widely ingested psychoactive drug in the world.

Well, as long my psychoactive drug is presented to me in a pretty cup, I don't mind. So, I'll continue to stop by the mommy crack house, aka Starbucks, on my way to work and consume my drug of choice. Hey, don't judge me. I have two kids and a full-time job; I cook, I clean and make sure that my house runs like an well-oiled machine. Who am I kidding? After the kids go to bed, I stay up late reading a novel or watching the latest train wreck of "The Real Housewives" series. Thus, the need for giant cups of coffee in the morning.

So, dear friends, do you need caffeine to get you through the day? Coffee? Diet Coke? Other energy drinks? Or are you one of those healthy sorts who only consumes natural liquids into your system? If so, you know we hate you, right? :)

Note to Hubby: You accidentally broke my ceramic Starbucks travel mug the other day. I forgive you. But I'm waiting for the replacement model. Remember, I'm on a psycoactive drug. You've been warned.

I drink a few small cups (or one grande latte) of coffee each morning but if I don't have it, I can go without and not suffer dire consequences. I simply find the morning rituals of a cup of coffee and reading a few blogs before I begin work to be a great way to start my day off right.

I am a coffee addict. I have tried many times to stop or lessen my consumption. I only had one cup today:) I really need your vote for a chair design contest I entered. You can go to most post to see how, it's quick and easy to do. http://plainfancyliving.blogspot.com/2011/08/i-need-your-vote.html

I would be so very grateful.

Sadly I have had to give up caffeine and I do miss it...
especially that early morning cup of coffee.

Two big mugs of black tea every morning. Can't live without it.

I tend to go through phases, switching between coffee and diet coke. To me, as long as I get some kind of caffeine every morning (and afternoon), I'm good! In fact, yesterday I asked the nurse at work if she could give me an IV with some caffeine in it. She laughed and walked away. I was pretty serious! As a new mom, I'm finding my strength (and sanity) in my morning caffeine rush.

Unfortunately, I drink way too much coffee throughout the day. I have tried to cut it out (save my morning cup which I can't and won't ever give up!!) but something about that delicious brown liquid won't let me go! (maybe its the psychoactive drug part that keeps me coming back-LOL!)

My drug of choice is black tea, preferably Earl Grey or English breakfast. If I'm dragging in the afternoon, its usually a diet coke pick me up.

My Mother-in-law always says, "There is nothing like the first sip!" I now drink it black and try to just limit myself to one cup which is why I am totally having a crazed day. Maybe I need another cup!
I do love sparkling water....with lemon.

Fresh ground coffee every morning a few minutes before the kids are up is one of my daily pleasures. Occasionally, when I need an extra boost or if the weather is chilly, I'll pick up a Pike Place roast in the afternoon. I'm one of those people that really likes the taste of coffee--love it with a square of chocolate in the evening, which I seldom do. I could happily drink a lot more than I do, but I know it's not great for me, so I try to think of it as a treat to be savored.
