Tomorrow we kick off our first of three tours of kindergartens that will take place over the next week, so I just wanted to ask that everyone please send prayers, positive vibes, good ju-ju, and everything else our way. I know, you’re probably thinking, “Relax, not a big deal!” And, in the grand scheme of the world, it’s probably not. But, we are deciding on an educational path for our first born, so, I am a bit anxious and nervous. I want to do right by my child.In our case, we’re choosing Catholic education. My husband and I both attended Catholic schools, K-12 and we're active in our Catholic faith. So, we want to provide that for our children. We will be selecting the school she will attend from kindergarten to eighth grade.
We currently belong to a parish that has a school, which we’ve heard wonderful things about (Hubby went there as a child). But, it’s rather large. So, we’re also looking at two other parish schools in the area – one very small and one that falls in between and has an excellent reputation. Now, preference is given to siblings and then to families who belong to the parish church. So, if we decide on a school other than our current parish school, well, big changes are in store. And, here’s hoping there isn’t a waiting list at the school we end up choosing. I can’t even face that possibility (I know, I sound like those parents I made fun of in a post last week.)
Hubby and I have been praying that we make the right decision. We’ve heard great things about all three schools, so that’s a positive. It’s just going to depend on what feels right for our family. I’ll keep everyone posted on the decision. I can’t believe I’m deciding on a kindergarten for my baby! Ok, deep breath…
Hope everyone has a great weekend! No game for the Cats this Saturday, but Sept. 19 is the big game with Louisville. We’ll be tailgating in Lexington and I CAN’T WAIT!!!

What is meant to be, will be. I believe that as a mother, and an educator.
I too have gone through all this {and oh so much more!} and I'm here to tell you that I somehow {by the grace of God} have raised a son who is doing well, attending a wonderful college, is liked by others, makes me proud, and is on the {right} path he has chosen for his future. Mind you, this costs me over $100. each time I visit my fabulous salon to cover my less than desired color of hair that sprouts out in odd places and shapes. Life is all about trial and error and everything in life is a lesson. You’ll do fine, I promise. Most importantly, listen to what your children are saying once they are in school. That alone will tell you if you’ve met their needs, and are becoming well rounded individuals.

Its a hard important decision and like all hard important decisions it weighs on your mind. I chose a school for my daughter from K-12 BUT I acknowledge that the choice was mine not hers and if the school doesn't work out for whatever reason, we can always change. Once you realise that then its not so much of a weight.
Oh, these decisions are SO hard! I remember agonizing over where we were going to send our boys. Tears were shed. We are pleased with our choice, but take it one year at a time.

It is a hard decision... isn't it? Much harder than I ever imagined would be. I have learned several (maybe a few more) things over the years... Nothing is set in stone. Take each year as it comes. Changes can always be made! As long as your child is happy, making friends and learning well then you have made the right decision... as soon as one or more of those start to change, then it's time to look at a new approach.

Prayers coming your way to find a terrific school! I jus started reading your blog but my daughter just entered Kindergarten so I completely understand how stressing and heartbreaking it is! I'm baptist, so I'm not extremely knowledgeable to Catholic Faith, but do they still ...well I wouldn't call it "hitting" even though that's kind of what it is ... but is their punishment more of a physical form like it used to be? *Shrugs* When I think of Catholic School, that's what I think of :)

No, there is no corporal punishment at Catholic schools these days. There wasn't when I was in school, either. I have to say, I was thrilled with today's tour and so very impressed with this particular school. It had a very respectful and loving environment. The classrooms and school grounds were wonderful. Very impressed, indeed. I could really see my kids in that setting.
